Informing Improvements for Community Programs

Situation:

Chase Consulting was recently engaged by the CFA to obtain recommendations on improving its Fire Ready Victoria and Bushfire Planning Workshop program experiences for the community.

Approach:

We [Page//Chase Consulting] developed an intensive and fast track approach to meet the CFA’s timelines. We designed our research approach to achieve a very high response rate with the Community Liaison Bushfire Engagement presenters and to ensure equitable representation across the CFA’s regions.

We conducted over 30 in-depth interviews and facilitated focus groups with the CFA’s Presenters to:
  • Identify quality improvements for Fire Ready Victoria and Bushfire Planning Workshops based on presenter experiences.
  • Understand the needs of our presenters to enable them to support desired community experiences
Critical to the success of this review was engaging with the CFA Presenters through telephone interviews on a volunteer basis to help identify future program improvements.

The focus group approach was extremely valuable in validated the recurring themes from the telephone interviews.

We summarised the results and learnings and recommendations for improvements into the strategic report.
